After months of soak tests, Motorola has finally started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for former flagship smartphone Moto Z, according to reports.
The update is available only in Brazil for the time being but is expected to be rolled out to United States, United Kingdom and other regions soon, a thread in Lenovo site says.
The Motorola Moto Z was running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow when launched in September 2016 and received Android Nougat update later the same year.
Android 8.0 is currently available as an over-the-air update, but you can also manually download it on your phone.
The update will bring in a March 5 security patch as well as several new features including faster boot times, background limits, picture-in-picture mode, smart text selection, a fully redesigned emoji set, Auto fill functionality, adaptive icons, Android Instant Apps and notification dots.
The update is currently available only in Brazil but is expected to be rolled out to US, UK and other regions in coming weeks.
You can manually check for the update by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates,> Check for the for the latest software.
Keep in mind that Moto Z is a slim device at only 5.2mm thick. It features a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED screen and is powered by a 1.8GHz quad-core Snapdragon 820 SoC processor. It has 4GB of RAM and a 2600mAh non-removable battery, which fairly offers two days of life on a single charge.
The handset is backed by TurboPower fast-charging technology, which gives you up to 15 hours of battery life with a 15-minute charge.
Moto Z offers up to 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded to 2TB via a microSD card.
The phone has a 5-megapixel front, and 13-megapixel rear camera with laser autofocus, optical image stabilization and dual LED flash.
It, however, lacks a headphone jack, which means the users have to either use a bundled USB-C dongle or go wireless with Bluetooth headphones.
