Apple today unveiled a free battery replacement program for non-Touch Bar 13-inch MacBook Pros.

A  “limited number” of the machines manufactured between October 2016 to October 2017 have a faulty component which causes the battery to swell, Apple said in an announcement on its website.

13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and older 13-inch MacBook Pro models are not eligible for the program.

The program covers eligible MacBook Pro models for five years after the original purchase.

How to Find MacBook Pro Serial Number

You can find the serial number in the About This Mac window. (Choose Apple logo> menu> About This Mac).

You can also find the serial number on the surface of your MacBook Pro.  Just turn over the computer, and you can see the serial number underside.

If you have the original packaging for your MacBook Pro, you can see the serial number on a barcode label on the box.

The serial number might also be mentioned on the receipt or invoice of your MacBook Pro.

If your computer qualifies for the repair program, you can bring your MacBook Pro at Apple’s retail stores or authorized service providers or can mail it to company’s repair center.

Those who’ve already replaced their battery can contact Apple for a refund.

The company notes that any damage in 13-inch MacBook Pro which impairs the battery replacement would need to be fixed before you can avail the repair service.

The repair program does not extend the standard warranty coverage of the 13-inch MacBook Pro (non-touch Bar), Apple further said.

Last week, Apple launched a similar program to repair select Apple Watch Series 2 models.

The three-year program was for 42mm Series 2 models that experience an ‘expanded battery’ or do not power on under certain conditions.
