Samsung Gear S4 to Arrive This Year: Report

Samsung is expected to launch its new flagship smartwatch, Gear S4, by the end of this year, according to SamMobile.

The tech blog, which has a credible track record of forecasts about forthcoming Samsung hardware, claims that the South Korean tech giant is working on a new smartwatch with model number SM-R800.

It is yet unclear that whether or not the upcoming smartwatch would be called Gear S4.

Samsung’s current flagship smartwatch –Gear Sport – was launched in October 2017, a year after the release of Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier watches.

g2SamMobile believes that the so-called Gear S4 will be powered by Samsung’s own TizenOS and will bring up new fitness functionality and more accurate sleep tracking capabilities.

The blog claims that like its predecessors, the watch will be compatible with both Android and iOS operating systems.

Gear 4 is likely to arrive anytime during the fourth quarter, the same period in which previous TizenOS-powered wearables were launched.

The so-called Gear S4 will reportedly bring up new fitness functionality and more accurate sleep tracking capabilities.

The news comes barely two weeks after Samsung announced to roll out a major update for its four-year-old Gear S2 smartwatch, which brings up a new-looking user interface and new fitness features.

The update, which is available to download via Samsung Gear app, also allows the users to manually select their apps.

The updated Gear S2 watches also feature a new App Shortcuts widget that automatically includes the apps you’ve most recently used.

Gear S2 wearers also don’t need to be on the watch face to view the Quick Panel, which is used instantly access common settings like volume, sound and display brightness, and they can do so by swiping down from all screens.

Smartwatch’s benchmark feature Samsung Health now includes a multi-workout widget which enables you to get quick access to your favourite exercise and inactivity alerts.

Samsung also now lets you view your heart rate in real time and access and control exercise-related video content right from your wrist by connecting the gadget to a smartphone synced with your Samsung TV.

Following the latest update, you can also control Gear VR with the Gear VR controller app.

Lastly, you can also control a PowerPoint presentation from your wrist by downloading the PPT Controller app.
